Auditions

SCNO singers range in age from 16 – 88. They vary in vocal and musical ability. Some have professional, solo quality voices. Many do not. Most have choral experience and read music. All of our singers are expected to learn and prepare music outside of rehearsals. All of our singers are expected to sing accurately and expressively in rehearsal and performance to support the vision, mission, and values of the chorus. Auditions for membership in Symphony Chorus are scheduled throughout the season by appointment.

Auditions take approximately ten minutes and consist of directed vocalization to determine range and quality. You will be asked to do the following:

  • perform an aria, art-song, or show-tune of your choice (accompanist is provided)
  • perform a prepared excerpt from Handel’s Messiah
  • take a pitch memory test,
  • demonstrate music reading skills.

To request an audition, complete and submit the Audition Form below. You will be contacted to discuss your application and to schedule your audition. If you have additional questions please email us obscure-auditions.

In preparation for your audtition, please click the button below to download And He Shall Purify from Messiah. There is also a place to upload the sheet music you will use for your vocal solo. Uploading is optional, but please bring your copy of the music to the audition, along with the sheet music for your vocal solo.
